Chainsaw recall notice: Positec corded electric chainsaws and pole saws
What the CPSC, Health Canada and the importer say about the July 2025 recall of corded electric chainsaws and pole saws sold under four brand names: the switch fault, serial ranges, units and remedy.
Checked against the sources at the bottom of this page on October 9, 2026. Rules, fees and pay change: the source has the last word.
This page sets out what three records say about one recall: the corded electric chainsaws and pole saws that Positec recalled in the United States and Canada on July 3, 2025. The records are the CPSC recall record, the Health Canada notice and the importer's own recall page on its Worx site. The wider list is in the guide to chainsaw recalls and safety notices. The notices linked below are the record, and each is restated here in our own words.
The fault as the notices describe it
All three records give the same fault: the main switch can fail, so the saw keeps running after the switch is released. The CPSC and Health Canada call it a laceration hazard. The importer's page adds, in its question and answer section, that a running saw could touch the operator or people nearby.
Which saws
The CPSC record names four product lines. The importer's page and the CPSC record give the same identification chart, keyed to the label on the main body of the saw.
| Product as the notice names it | Item or SKU | Serial or date range |
|---|---|---|
| Hyper Tough 9 Amp electric corded 14 inch chainsaw | HT21-401-002-01 | 10/10/2024 to 12/01/2024 |
| Portland 9 Amp 14 inch chainsaw | SKU 58949 | Between 37567 2442 and 37567 2451 |
| Worx 8 Amp 14 inch electric chainsaw | WG305 | Serial number starts with a six digit code between 202408 and 202501 |
| Worx 8 Amp electric pole saw | WG309 | Serial number starts with a six digit code between 202408 and 202501 |
The Health Canada notice lists a different set for Canada. It covers the same two Worx models, WG305 and WG309, plus two saws sold under the Yardworks name: a 2-in-1 electric pole saw with item number 0545757 and a corded chainsaw with item number 0545763. For the Yardworks saws the date code reads 1 47 24 or 2 43 24. The Hyper Tough and Portland saws are not in the Canadian notice, and the Yardworks saws are not in the US record.
Numbers, dates and reports
- US recall date and Canadian publication date: July 3, 2025, as a joint recall.
- Units: the CPSC record gives "About 49,000 (In addition, about 3,000 were sold in Canada)". Health Canada gives 3,028 sold in Canada and 49,000 in the United States.
- Sold: September 2024 to March 2025, in the CPSC and Health Canada records. The importer's page names the sales channels as the Worx site, Amazon, Walmart and Harbor Freight, in stores and online.
- Reports: none. The importer's page says it had received no reports of incidents or injuries, and Health Canada states none in Canada or the United States as of June 30, 2025.
- Place of origin: China, in both agency records.
Remedy
The CPSC record and the importer's page give one remedy: stop using the saw, contact the importer for a pre-paid shipping label and a new box if needed, and return the unit. The importer then supplies a free replacement chainsaw or pole saw. The importer's page says a saw that seems to work still has to be returned, and that no receipt is needed. Health Canada names the Canadian importer, Positec Canada, Ltd. of Mississauga, as the contact for replacement directions. The CPSC record names Positec Tool Corporation of Charlotte, North Carolina as the importer for the United States.
Where the notices send readers
For the maker's own wording, see the importer's chainsaw recall page. The Health Canada notice also reminds readers that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits redistributing, selling or giving away recalled products.
