Chainsaw recalls and safety notices: the official registers

Chainsaw recalls and safety notices from the CPSC in the United States, Health Canada and the UK product safety list, newest first, with each register's read date and a link to every notice.

Checked against the sources at the bottom of this page on October 8, 2026. Rules, fees and pay change: the source has the last word.

This page lists chainsaw recalls and safety notices as the official registers of the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom publish them. Each register was read on October 8, 2026, and the tables show what each register held on that date. Maker and product names appear because the notices name them. The page ranks nothing and says nothing about which saw is better. Recalls are reissued and corrected, so the notice linked in each row is the record, not this table.

United States

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) publishes its recalls through a public web service. Two searches of the service, one for the words "chain saw" and one for "chainsaw" in the recall title, returned 30 distinct notices on October 8, 2026, dated from October 5, 1981 to October 30, 2025. The table shows the 14 dated 2010 and later, newest first. The dates are the recall dates in the CPSC record. The hazard column gives the hazard named in the notice title, and the remedy column gives the remedy option the record lists.

Most of the notices above cover consumer saws sold through home centers and hardware chains. Four name authorized dealers as the place of sale, which is where professional saws are usually bought: the notices dated December 23, 2010, February 14, 2012, February 23, 2017 and September 14, 2023. The September 14, 2023 notice has its own page: STIHL MSA 300 recall notice. So does the October 30, 2025 notice for a battery top handle saw: Milwaukee M18 FUEL top handle recall notice.

Canada

Health Canada publishes recalls and safety alerts on the Recalls and Safety Alerts site and releases the same records as an open dataset under the Open Government Licence, Canada. The dataset file read on October 8, 2026 holds 34,187 records. The table lists every record from 2018 on whose title names a chainsaw or a pole saw. The dataset gives one date for each record, the date it was last updated, so that is the date shown. The hazard is the dataset's issue field, and the remedy column gives the notice's instruction in our words. Where the dataset holds no instruction text, the cell says so.

United Kingdom

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) publishes product safety alerts, reports and recalls on GOV.UK. A search of that list for "chainsaw" returned 49 entries on October 8, 2026. Two are recalls of professional-type saws from end users, shown below. Most of the rest are product safety reports on small cordless "mini" chainsaws sold through online marketplaces, and on angle grinder discs with chainsaw teeth. Those entries record border rejections, destroyed stock and removed listings rather than recalls from owners, and the search page lists them in full.

July 10, 2026Draper 30274 Petrol Chainsaw 51cc, Product recall 2607-0086The plastic chain brake lever can melt or deform during use. Remedy: recalled from end users by the maker.
November 2, 2023STIHL MSA300 Cordless Chainsaw, Product recall 2310-0159Anomalies in the chain brake area, with doubts about braking time. Remedy: recalled from end users.

The GOV.UK notices are published under the Open Government Licence v3.0. The STIHL MSA300 notice points to a recall page on the maker's UK site; that address returned "not found" on October 8, 2026, so it is not linked here. The search page for the full UK list is the GOV.UK recalls and alerts list.

Registers not read

The EU Safety Gate, the Australian recalls site and the New Zealand product safety site have no rows on this page. On October 8, 2026 the Australian site refused the request for its copyright page, the New Zealand site had no copyright page at the address tried, and the EU site showed no reuse terms for its alert list. With no terms read, no rows were built from these three.

Where the registers differ

The three registers do not agree on dates or counts. One recall can carry different dates in different countries: the STIHL MSA 300 notice is dated September 14, 2023 in the United States, November 2 in the United Kingdom and November 6 in Canada. Unit counts are given in the notices themselves, and the pages for single notices set them side by side. Anyone checking a particular serial number or date code needs the maker's own recall page, which each notice links or names. The guide on inspection rules for climbing and rigging gear covers what regulators say about checking gear, and the guide on chainsaw protective clothing covers the protective side.
