Tipping fees for logs, chips and yard waste: published rate schedules from twelve US counties and cities
What twelve US county, city and transfer station rate schedules publish for clean wood, yard waste, brush and stumps at transfer stations and landfills, with the date each schedule names.
Checked against the sources at the bottom of this page on October 9, 2026. Rules, fees and pay change: the source has the last word.
This page reports what the official source says. It is not legal advice: ask the office named here. It covers twelve public rate schedules opened and read on October 9, 2026. Each row restates one schedule in its own units, per ton or per cubic yard, and the schedule's own date. The schedules differ in what they call a material, so the first column gives the wording the schedule uses. Places not on this page are not described, and no average is given because the units and sorting rules differ.

What the schedules say about sorting
Seattle's transfer station page says rates for clean yard waste and clean wood waste are lower than rates for garbage, and that materials are separated before arriving at the station. King County's table says clean wood and yard waste must be separated for recycling before arriving at the stations it names. Yakima County's page says yard waste in plastic bags and all contaminated loads are charged at garbage rates. Snohomish County's fees page says the county no longer accepts yard or clean wood debris at all its facilities, effective September 21, 2022.
Units, taxes and who publishes
Most rows are per ton. Klamath County's outlying stations and Deschutes County charge per cubic yard, and Clay County charges per yard. Clay County's table shows a price with tax and a lower price with a tax waiver on file. Lewis County's page says a 3.6 percent refuse tax is added to each transaction. Snohomish County's table marks some fees as including its solid waste collection tax and others as adding it. The Huntington Beach schedule is a file on a waste company's website, not a city page. The Hillsborough County row sits in the commercial disposal table, in the column for non-processable waste.
Kearney's extra lines
The Kearney rate table lists residential yard waste as free and prices commercial yard waste by loads per month, from US$10.30 a month for one to five loads to US$154.50 a month for 50 loads or more. It lists wood chips at US$8 per cubic yard loaded by the customer and US$18 per load loaded by landfill staff, and says refuse from outside the service area is charged at two times the rates shown.
