Can I take the ISA Certified Arborist exam in Spanish?

ISA lists Spanish for two exams, not for the others. This page sets out which exams come in which languages and what ISA says about translated material.

Checked against the sources at the bottom of this page on October 8, 2026. Rules, fees and pay change: the source has the last word.

ISA's common questions page says some ISA certifications can be sat in a language other than English. The ISA Certified Arborist exam is offered in French (Canadian), Traditional Chinese and Spanish. For the ISA Certified Tree Climber exam, ISA names Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Spanish. The detail on each credential is in ISA credentials, one by one.

Language by credential, as ISA lists it

CredentialExam languages other than English that ISA names
ISA Certified ArboristFrench (Canadian), Traditional Chinese, Spanish
ISA Certified Tree ClimberTraditional Chinese, Japanese, Spanish
ISA Tree Risk Assessment QualificationNone named. The program guide says the program and examinations are offered in English, and that candidates should be able to understand complex text at Common European Framework level B2.

The common questions page does not name languages for the other certifications. It says only that several of them offer exams in languages other than English, and then lists the two above.

Program guides and the portal

  • ISA says all program guides on its site have Unicode-compliant text, which makes machine translation easier.
  • The ISA credentialing portal is described as optimized for multilingual access.
  • The ISA page on types of credentials lists the Certified Tree Worker Aerial Lift Specialist application guide in Spanish as a separate PDF.

How the exam is held

Exam events are sponsored by an ISA Certification Partner or offered at a computer-based testing center, according to ISA's exam information page. That page says candidates with an approved application view and enroll in exam events through the credentialing system, and that local Certification Partners can answer questions about local events. The pages read for this answer do not say which language is offered at which event or center.

Spanish-language material from TCIA

The Tree Care Industry Association's apprenticeship program page says eleven online courses are available and that Spanish courses are being developed. It says nothing about an ISA exam.
