Lantra Awards Level 3 aerial arboriculture awards: hours, prerequisites and Ofqual numbers

A side-by-side table of the seven Lantra Awards Level 3 aerial arboriculture awards, with Ofqual numbers, hours, credits and the prerequisites each specification names.

Checked against the sources at the bottom of this page on October 8, 2026. Rules, fees and pay change: the source has the last word.

This page reports what the official source says. It is not legal advice: ask the office named here. The pages used are the Lantra Awards qualification specifications for each award, one PDF per award. Lantra Awards is an awarding body that runs its own aerial arboriculture awards next to the City and Guilds NPTC ones. The guide on UK award lookup lists the City and Guilds numbers, and the guide on chainsaw and tree work tickets by country gives the short summary.

What every specification shares

Each of the seven specifications gives an operational start date of September 1, 2025 and grades pass or fail. Each is assessed inside the training provider and externally checked by Lantra Awards. Each says the award is not appropriate for learners under 16. Each recommends that learners can read English and have basic first aid knowledge.

The access award as the base

The access award has two units: access a tree using a rope and harness at 24 guided learning hours and 3 credits, and aerial rescue at 2 credits. The award is 5 credits in total. The stationary rope work specification describes the access award as the prerequisite for all the other aerial arboriculture awards. The guide on climbing trees and aerial rescue sets it next to the City and Guilds 0039-22 award.

Where each award is written up

The guides on aerial tree pruning, aerial tree rigging, chainsaw from a MEWP and thorough examination each put the Lantra award beside the matching City and Guilds one. The aerial cutting and stationary rope work awards have no City and Guilds match on this site, so the table above is their whole entry here.

A skills card named in the specifications

The specifications mention a "FISS/CSCS Partnercard" skills card. The Lantra page for that card is the card application page for the Fencing Industry Skills Scheme, which is a fencing scheme and not a tree work one.
