ANSI Z133-2026: the 2026 edition and where to read it

ANSI Z133 is the US safety standard for tree care work. This page reports ISA's public timeline for the 2026 edition, how it was made and where the publisher lists it, without describing what is inside it.

Checked against the sources at the bottom of this page on October 8, 2026. Rules, fees and pay change: the source has the last word.

This page reports what the official source says. It is not legal advice: ask the office named here. It covers what the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) says publicly about the 2026 edition of ANSI Z133, the US safety standard for tree care work, including the timeline, the process behind it and where the publisher lists it. It does not describe what is inside the document, because the document is the publisher's to distribute and a summary here could mislead. The rules in force are in the standard itself.

What the edition is called

The publication is listed by ISA as ANSI Z133-2026, titled "American National Standard: Safety and Health Requirements for Arboricultural Operations". ISA's February 2026 newsroom item says ISA acts as secretariat and, as an ANSI-accredited standards developer, is subject to periodic ANSI compliance audits.

ISA says the edition was approved by ANSI and published in English and Spanish. The pages read do not state an exact date of ANSI approval, so this page gives none.

How the standard is made

ISA's February 2026 item says the work runs through a committee, two rounds of public review and a committee vote, with ANSI checking the process through audits. It adds that Z133-2017 remained in force until the 2026 edition arrived, and that committee meetings are open to interested parties. The public review page is where drafts and comment rounds were posted.

Where to read it

On the publication page ISA says the digital PDF is free for individual use through a MyISA account, in English and Spanish. A printed copy is sold. ISA lists a bulk discount for pre-approved bulk purchasers who buy 25 or more copies, and a company licensing option. Prices are on the publisher's page and are not repeated here. Other standards from other publishers are in the standards register.

Why the edition number matters to other documents

Other official documents cite a specific edition. OSHA's June 2021 inspection memo for tree care names ANSI Z133-2017 when it discusses what its inspectors look at, as the OSHA tree care guide on this site reports. When the edition changes, the citing documents keep naming the edition they were written against until their own authors update them. The memo itself is on osha.gov. Country by country rules on tree work are in safety rules by country.
