CEU tracker for ISA credentials

Type the continuing education units earned in science, practice and management, and any in no category, to see the total against the count each ISA application guide gives for renewing by CEUs.

Checked against the sources at the bottom of this page on October 8, 2026. Published tables are revised: the source has the last word.

Work it out

How the answer is worked out

Total = science plus practice plus management plus the CEUs in no category. Each credential line then compares that total with its published count and shows how many are missing, if any.

For the Board Certified Master Arborist line the science, practice and management boxes are also each compared with 10.

What the sources say

ISA's page for credential holders says the recertification period set and supported by its Credentialing Council is three years, that the goals must be reached within each three-year cycle, and that CEUs do not roll over from one period to the next. It says credential holders are responsible for monitoring their own CEU status.

Each ISA application guide gives two ways to renew: retake and pass the exam, or earn CEUs over the three-year period. The counts read on October 8, 2026 are in the table.

CredentialCEUs in the three-year periodOther terms the guide gives with the CEUs
Application guide, ISA Certified Arborist30Related to the 10 tested domains
Application guide, ISA Certified Tree Climber15Related to the eight tested domains, with current proof of training in CPR, first aid and a physical (practice) aerial rescue
Application guide, ISA Certified Arborist Utility Specialist6Related to the five tested domains; the holder must also be a current ISA Certified Arborist
Application guide, ISA Certified Urban Forest Professional30Related to the four tested domains
Application guide, ISA Board Certified Master Arborist60Related to the 17 tested domains, with at least 10 in each of science, practice and management

The calculator adds typed numbers. It does not check that an event relates to the tested domains, that ISA approved it, or that ISA has posted it to an account. The Tree Climber line counts CEUs only, since the CPR, first aid and aerial rescue proof is not a number. Each guide also names a recertification fee and the ISA code of ethics, which are not part of the count.

Arithmetic only. The answer is only as good as the numbers entered. It is not a plan or a safe working load for any job.
