This page describes a public dataset as its publisher lists it. It reports the record description, field list and counts as read on October 10, 2026, and it does not interpret the numbers. The family overview is on the guide to city open tree data. For another California city file, see the San Jose tree layer.
What the dataset is
The record is titled City Maintained Trees on Sacramento's open data site and is a feature service on the city's GIS account, credited to Sacramento GIS and the Urban Forestry section of the Department of Public Works. Its description says the layer holds trees or tree site locations maintained by the Urban Forestry section, which it describes as focused on planting, protecting and maintaining trees in the city right-of-way, parks and public spaces. The record shows a creation date of April 27, 2017 and a last modified date of October 4, 2026. Its tags are Open Data, Urban Forestry, Locations and Mapping, Trees, and Parks and Recreation. The layer is a point layer, and the server returns up to 2,000 features per request. A count query returned 112,762 points on October 10, 2026.
Fields
The layer lists 25 fields. They include an object code, address number and street, land use, plant type, grow space, a conductor field, a hardscape field, species, botanical name, cultivar, number of stems, diameter at breast height, eight diameter class date fields running from 0 to 3 up to 49 plus, a description and an asset identifier.

These are row counts in the layer, not a statement about how many trees stand in the city.
What the city says about its urban forest
The city's Urban Forestry page says the program's mission is to promote a safe, sustainable and healthy urban forest. It says the urban forest means all trees and vegetation in the urban area, public and private, and that generally only about 20 percent of it is public trees. It says Sacramento is a Sterling Tree City USA and that certain trees require a permit to perform work on. The page links to separate pages on tree permits and ordinances, tree programs, tree questions and an urban forest plan.
Licence
The record's licence field reads custom. The licence text it gives says all information compiled on the site is provided as a public service and for general informational purposes only. It names no open licence, so this page does not say what reuse is permitted.
