Prairie Chapter Tree Climbing Competition: organiser, entry route, events and results page

The ISA Prairie Chapter's climbing competition for the prairie provinces: the 2026 weekend, the five preliminary events with the distances the chapter lists, who may enter the Masters' Challenge, the registration steps and cap, and how its champions reach the world final.

Checked against the sources at the bottom of this page on October 9, 2026. Rules, fees and pay change: the source has the last word.

This page reports what the ISA Prairie Chapter says on its tree climbing competition page. The other Canadian events and the world final are in the table of championships.

Who runs it and when it was held

The ISA Prairie Chapter describes itself as a non-profit dedicated to education and the promotion of certified arborists in the prairie provinces. Its competition page lists the 2026 competition for August 21 to 23, 2026, at Kildonen Park, 2015 Main St, as the page spells it. The schedule runs over three days.

  • Friday, August 21. Climber check-in, equipment check, an aerial rescue workshop, event orientation and the belayed speed climb.
  • Saturday, August 22. The four remaining preliminary events, then a supper and the preliminary awards, where the climbers who qualified for the Masters' Challenge are announced.
  • Sunday, August 23. The Masters' Challenge, then a volunteer and sponsor recognition and the awards ceremony, where the chapter's champions are announced.

The events as the chapter lists them

The chapter says competitors take part in five preliminary events and are judged on speed of ascent, agility and accuracy. The work climb has climbers visit five stations in a tree and do a different task at each. In the aerial rescue, climbers reach and lower an injured climber, which the page says is a life-sized mannequin. The throwline places lines 30 to 60 feet up in a tree. The belayed speed climb goes from the ground to about 60 feet. The ascent event is a 50 foot vertical ascent. First, second and third place for men and for women are awarded in each event, and the men and women with the highest combined score move to the Masters' Challenge, which the chapter describes as judging overall productivity and skill with rope and saddle in the tree, with stations like the work climb.

Entry route

The winners of the Masters' Challenge are named Prairie Chapter champions and go on to represent the chapter at the ISA International Tree Climbing Championship. The page adds that the 2026 Masters champions will represent the chapter at the 2027 world final in Belgium.

  • Membership. Climbers need a valid individual Prairie Chapter membership. The page says working for a member, or for an organisation that is one, does not count, and that membership can be bought at registration.
  • Out of chapter. Competitors from outside the chapter or its region may enter the preliminary events but not the Masters' Challenge, and go on a waitlist that the chapter said it would clear by July 8, 2026 if the event was not full of chapter members.
  • Cap. The field is limited to the first 44 paid registrations. Registration opened at 8 AM Mountain Standard Time on July 1, 2026 and closes on August 17, 2026.
  • Women's places. The page says 12 places in the women's competition were held back until 8 AM on July 3, 2026, after which the rest opened to everyone.
  • Gear check. Climbers bring a printed gear check form and are pointed to a gear check FAQ sheet on the ISA site.

Volunteers set up and take down the event, support competitors and judges and help with logistics, and the page says they get a 20 percent discount code for the chapter's annual conference. The chapter's results section on the page is marked as under construction. See the Prairie competition page for the sponsor tiers and photo galleries.
