Championnat des élagueurs du Québec: organiser, entry rules, fees, five events and the results archive
The Quebec tree climbing championship run by the Société internationale d'arboriculture du Québec (SIAQ): the 2027 date and place its page lists, who may enter and what the 2026 fees were, the five preliminary events, the Masters' Challenge residence rule, and the archive of results back to 2004.
Checked against the sources at the bottom of this page on October 9, 2026. Rules, fees and pay change: the source has the last word.
This page reports what the SIAQ, the Quebec chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), says on its championship pages. The pages are in French: the wording here is our own summary of them. The national and regional events are in the table of championships. The SIAQ posts its results, and this page names no climber because it has not read terms that allow reuse of names.
Where and when
The about page gives the championship's date and place, under its when and where lines, as August 27 to 29, 2027, in Montréal. It says the championship changes host city every year, has the stated aim of showing the climbing arborist's trade to the public and teaching people about urban trees, and has an open call for cities that want to host a free family event in a park. It adds that no hotel room block is held for the championship. The page says the 2026 champions will represent Quebec at the world final in Belgium in October 2027, and the results page says the 2025 champions represent the SIAQ at the 2026 final in St. Louis, Missouri.
Entry route and fees for 2026
The competitor page says registration for Quebec residents, who must be SIAQ members with active membership at the time of registering, opened on June 25 at 7 PM. It says two places were available for climbers from outside Quebec, with more possible if local places were not filled, and that outside climbers must belong to their own local ISA chapter. Guest registration opened on June 30 at 9 AM Quebec time. Places went first come, first served.
| Category | Fee and terms as listed |
|---|---|
| SIAQ member | 220 $. The page writes the amount that way and names no currency code. |
| Guest | 245 $. The page writes the amount that way and names no currency code. |
The page says a box lunch is included. It says registration is not refundable unless the competition is cancelled, and that a registration from a non-member is refused and refunded automatically with a 10% administration charge held back. The women's and guest categories are exclusive, so a wrong choice could lose the place.
Who may compete
The page says the competition is open to SIAQ member climbers, and that students in arborist training are not eligible. Only Quebec residents may take part in the Masters' Challenge, the grand final. Climbers from outside Quebec compete in the preliminary events only. The rules are the ISA International Tree Climbing Championship rules for 2024 to 2026, in a French version annotated with Quebec points and an English version.
The five preliminary events and the final
The about page names five events: a rope work movement event through the crown to several work stations, a timed aerial rescue of a dummy placed at a height the page gives as 8 metres, an ascent event, a belayed speed climb on a set route to a height the page gives as 60 feet, and a throwbag event with targets at 16 to 18 metres, one target per tree and a time allowance the page gives as 6 minutes. The Masters' Challenge is the final event and judges overall productivity and skill with a rope and harness in the tree.
Results archive
The results page shows the 2026 Masters' Challenge ranking and a medal table of the preliminary round, and keeps an archive of yearly results for 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022 and 2019 back to 2004, with no entries for 2020 and 2021. See the SIAQ results page for them.
