Queensland Tree Climbing Championships: organiser, events, prizes, rules and the other Queensland competitions
The Queensland Tree Climbing Championships (QTCC) run by the Queensland Arboricultural Association (QAA): the 2025 date and place its page gives, the five events and the Masters Challenge, the rule book it follows, the prize places that lead to national and international events, and the association's two other climbing competitions.
Checked against the sources at the bottom of this page on October 9, 2026. Rules, fees and pay change: the source has the last word.
This page reports what the QAA says on its own pages. The QAA is listed by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) as an associate organisation that holds a tree climbing competition. The national and regional events are in the table of championships. This page names no climber and no sponsor firm, because it has not read terms that allow reuse of names.
Where and when
The QTCC page, posted on September 1, 2025, gives the event details as Friday September 5 and Saturday September 6, 2025, at Teralba Park, 120 Pullen Road, Everton Park, Queensland. The page lists no 2026 date. The earlier QTCC page for 2023 gives Friday September 8 and Saturday September 9, 2023, at the Tewantin Noosa Pony Club, 29 Butler Street, Tewantin. The venue therefore changes between years.
Events
The 2025 page sets out Friday as aerial rescue, belayed speed climb, throwline and work climb, and Saturday as the ascent event and the Masters Challenge, which is for the top overall performers. The 2023 page lists the same five events plus the Masters. The page says the line-up is made of internationally recognised climbing events and describes them as mirroring field challenges in speed, precision, problem-solving and safety.
Rules and gear check
The 2025 page says the QTCC follows the 2024 to 2025 ITCC Rule Book, and the 2023 page says that year ran on the 2022 to 2024 book. The 2025 page adds that the ISA rules committee released clarifying language for the ascent event rules in section 7.2.1 of the 2024 book. It says a gear check is held on the Friday morning to confirm equipment meets ISA standards, that the paperwork can be completed in advance, and that every competitor completes a waiver and media form before climbing. For 2023 the page gave an earlier gear check session on the Thursday afternoon, from 4 PM to 5:30 PM.
Prizes that lead to other championships
| Place | What the 2025 page lists |
|---|---|
| First | Paid entrance to the International Tree Climbing Championships as a QAA representative. The option to compete for the QAA at the Australian National Tree Climbing Championships and at the Asia Pacific Tree Climbing Championships. |
| Second and third | Paid entrance to the Australian National Tree Climbing Championships. The option to climb for the QAA at the Asia Pacific championships. |
| Fourth and fifth | The option to compete for the QAA at the Australian national and the Asia Pacific championships. Entry is not listed as paid. |
The page says conditions apply: a climber must hold financial QAA membership to be eligible for the major prizes. It adds that a climber offered a place as next in line beyond the top five does not have entrance fees covered.
Spectators, volunteers and sponsors
The page says spectator entry is free and that the weekend has trade exhibits, a family-friendly programme and the Masters Challenge. Competitors get a BBQ lunch. Volunteers are sought as judges and in-tree technicians on Friday and Saturday, with set-up on Thursday, and receive a volunteer shirt and lunch. The QAA reports no entry fee on this page: members log in to see a member discount on registration.
The QAA's other climbing competitions
The QAA Amateur Open page for 2024 gives Saturday March 16, 2024, at Colmslie Beach Reserve, 152 Colmslie Road, Murarrie, with five events (aerial rescue, ascent, belayed speed climb, throwline and work climb) under the 2022 to 2024 ITCC Rule Book and an amateur class plus a pro class. The Freestyle Climbing Competition page for 2023 gives Saturday July 22, 2023, at the Cairns Jockey Club, Woree. It describes one tree, with the aim of getting out of the tree fastest while keeping safe: each climber gets two runs, the top 15 go to a qualifier round, and the top seven go to a final decided on the fastest final time.
