This page sets out what four records say about one recall: the Black Diamond Vision climbing harness, recalled in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom in March 2025. The records are the maker's recall page dated February 27, 2025, the UK product recall 2503-0012 of March 7, 2025, and the CPSC record and Health Canada notice of March 13, 2025. The wider list is in the guide to climbing gear recalls and safety notices. The notices linked below are the record, and each is restated here in our own words.
The fault as the notices describe it
The records agree that the harness materials can wear out early. The CPSC says the harness can degrade over time and fail to support the climber. Health Canada says the materials can prematurely degrade or weaken. The maker's page names premature degradation of specialized materials and construction, and says an early investigation pointed to a combination of use, materials, construction, and environmental factors such as UV, with the root cause still under investigation when it was written. The UK notice, rated "High" risk, calls it a design flaw that can weaken the waist belt early, and says the product does not meet Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal protective equipment or the Personal Protective Equipment (Enforcement) Regulations 2018.
Which harnesses
The recall covers all sizes of the Vision harness, style number BD651096, SKU BD651096WHIT followed by the size. The records describe it as a lightweight harness for technical alpine and ice climbs, with fixed leg loops, black and white, with a blue belay loop and one buckle on the waistband. The words "Black Diamond" are on one leg loop and "Vision" on the other. The UK notice says the product identifiers are on the waist belt tag. The maker's page says the Vision AirNET RECCO and the maker's other harnesses are not part of the recall.

- United Kingdom: recall date March 7, 2025, with the corrective action recorded as a recall of the product from end users.
Remedy
The CPSC and Health Canada give a full refund or a voucher for use with the maker. The maker's page says the owner stops using the harness and sends it back by the recall process, that shipping is free, and that the two options are a store credit or a full refund. The UK notice sends owners to the maker's UK recall page. The maker's page is the Black Diamond Vision harness recall page.
