Climbing gear recalls and safety notices: the official registers

Recalls and safety notices for harnesses, connectors, ropes, descenders, lanyards and hard hats from the CPSC, Health Canada and the UK product safety list, newest first.

Checked against the sources at the bottom of this page on October 8, 2026. Rules, fees and pay change: the source has the last word.

This page lists recalls and safety notices for climbing and work-at-height gear: harnesses, connectors, ropes, descenders, ascenders, lanyards, pulleys and hard hats. The lists come from the registers of the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, read on October 8, 2026. Maker and product names appear because the notices name them. The page ranks nothing. The notice linked in each row is the record, and the maker's own notice page has the batch or serial numbers that decide whether a given item is covered.

United States

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) publishes recalls through a public web service. Searches of the recall titles for harness, carabiner, climbing, rope, descender, ascender, lanyard, belay, hard hat and pulley returned the records below that concern gear of the kinds listed above, dated 2010 and later. Rock-climbing protection, ice axes, gym auto belays, hunting tree stands and their climbing sticks, and via ferrata sets are left out because they are not rope-access or arborist gear. The hazard is the one in the notice title, and the remedy is the remedy type the record lists.

Canada

Health Canada releases its Recalls and Safety Alerts as an open dataset under the Open Government Licence, Canada. The table lists dataset records from 2018 on that name the same kinds of gear. The dataset gives one date, the date a record was last updated, and that is the date shown. Where the dataset holds no instruction text, the cell says so. Gym auto belays and hunting tree stand products are left out.

United Kingdom

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) publishes product safety alerts, reports and recalls on GOV.UK under the Open Government Licence v3.0. The table lists entries for the same kinds of gear that name a known maker or retailer. The register also holds dozens of product safety reports on unbranded climbing harnesses sold through online marketplaces, which record removed listings and border rejections; the GOV.UK list for climbing harnesses shows them. The date is the recall or alert date on the entry.

Makers' own notice pages

Several notices name a maker page where owners check serial or batch numbers. One reads in full on a page of its own: Ocun CONDOR HMS Triple carabiner recall. Most other maker pages were not reachable on October 8, 2026: Petzl's address from the CPSC notice returned "not found", the Wild Country product recalls address returned "not found" and the C.A.M.P. page needs JavaScript to show anything, so no facts were taken from them.

Registers not read

The EU Safety Gate, the Australian recalls site and the New Zealand product safety site have no rows here. The Australian site refused the request for its copyright page, the New Zealand site had no copyright page at the address tried, and the EU site showed no reuse terms for its alert list, so no rows were built from them. For what regulators say about checking gear in service, see the guide on inspection rules for climbing and rigging gear, and for rope care, the guide on looking after lines and saddles.
