Climbing gear recall notice: Petzl GYM, PANDION and PANJI harnesses

What the CPSC, Health Canada, the UK product safety list and the maker say about the 2024 recall of Petzl GYM, PANDION and PANJI harnesses that can be put on backwards: serial ranges, units, reports and remedy.

Checked against the sources at the bottom of this page on October 9, 2026. Rules, fees and pay change: the source has the last word.

This page sets out what four records say about one recall: the Petzl GYM, PANDION and PANJI harnesses. The records are the maker's safety information dated May 14, 2024, the CPSC recall record and Health Canada notice of September 12, 2024, and the UK product safety report 2505-0206 of June 4, 2025. The wider list is in the guide to climbing gear recalls and safety notices. The notices linked below are the record.

The fault as the notices describe it

All the records describe the same fault: the harness can be put on backwards, so that the rope or carabiner is attached to a leg loop elastic band that does not bear weight. The CPSC and Health Canada name the result as a fall from height with a risk of serious injury or death. The UK report states the risk as a fall from height and injury. The CPSC says the harnesses were used by operators of climbing gyms, adventure parks, search and rescue operations and guide companies, as well as consumers. The UK report describes the product as a lightweight, compact harness used in climbing gyms, rope courses and group harnesses.

Which harnesses

The CPSC and Health Canada list the same models and serial ranges. The serial number is printed on a label inside the harness. The harnesses are gray with orange and green sections, a bright orange leg loop for the left leg and a bright green attachment loop with an arrow marked "ATTACH HERE".

Remedy

The CPSC gives a free repair, and Health Canada says the product is modified by the maker. The UK report gives the detail: the maker reminds operators of training, supervision and monitoring, promotes educational tools, and offers owners the chance to send in a harness to have the current leg loop elastic band replaced with a new design free of charge. The UK report says replacement is not mandatory, and that the maker recommends it. The maker's own page, dated May 14, 2024, sends readers to separate notices for the United States and Canada and for other countries; see the Petzl GYM, PANDION and PANJI safety page.
