Climbing gear recall notice: Petzl SWAN EASYFIT STEEL and STAINLESS harnesses, 2025
What Health Canada, the UK product safety list and the maker say about the March and April 2025 recall of certain Petzl SWAN EASYFIT harness batches over a buckle that can break: batches, units, reports and remedy.
Checked against the sources at the bottom of this page on October 9, 2026. Rules, fees and pay change: the source has the last word.
This page sets out what three records say about one recall: certain batches of the Petzl SWAN EASYFIT STEEL and SWAN EASYFIT STAINLESS harnesses. The records are the maker's recall notice of March 4, 2025, the UK product recall 2503-0087 of March 21, 2025 and the Health Canada notice of April 3, 2025. A search of CPSC recall titles for the word harness on October 9, 2026 returned no record for this recall. The same models were the subject of a second, unrelated notice in 2026, which has its own page: Petzl SIMBA and SWAN EASYFIT harness recall of 2026. The wider list is in the guide to climbing gear recalls and safety notices.
The fault as the notices describe it
All three records give the same fault: the harness closes at the back with two FAST LT buckles, and a nonconforming batch of those buckles can break. The maker's notice says that if one or both buckles break, the harness no longer closes and the user risks leaving the harness completely, falling from height and being seriously injured or killed. The UK notice, notified by Local Authority Trading Standards, rates the risk "Serious" and says the buckles can break during normal use. Health Canada calls it a fall hazard.
Which harnesses
Only certain batches are covered. The maker's notice says a harness outside the listed batch numbers is not affected. The batch number is the first 10 digits of the harness's individual number. The models are:
- SWAN EASYFIT STEEL: C062AA00 for a single harness and C062AA01 for a pack of five.
- SWAN EASYFIT STAINLESS: C062BA00 for a single harness and C062BA01 for a pack of five.
Health Canada and the UK notice list the affected batch numbers in tables, with batch codes that begin with 22. The harnesses are gray and orange, with an orange loop for the left leg and a green attachment loop. The UK notice gives the country of origin as unknown, and Health Canada gives France.
Numbers, dates and reports
- Maker's notice: dated March 4, 2025 and last updated March 5, 2025. For the United States and Canada it says the affected products were sold from June 22, 2022.
- United Kingdom: recall date March 21, 2025, with the corrective action recorded as a recall of the product from end users.
- Canada: original publication April 3, 2025. The company reported 64 units sold in Canada, from June 2022 to January 2025.
- Reports: Health Canada states none in Canada as of April 2, 2025. The maker's notice says no injuries had been reported anywhere in the world from this nonconformity.
Remedy
The maker's notice asks users to stop using the harnesses, quarantine them and return them to the maker, and asks retailers to stop selling them. Each harness is either replaced directly with a new one or inspected. If the inspection finds no nonconforming buckle, the harness is returned as it is, and the notice says this does not replace the duty to check protective equipment periodically. If the inspection finds a nonconforming buckle, the harness is replaced. The maker pays all shipping costs. Health Canada gives replacement as the remedy. The maker's page is the Petzl voluntary recall notice for SWAN EASYFIT harnesses.
