Chipper recall notices: DR Power chipper shredders, March and September 2023
What the CPSC, Health Canada and the maker's notices page say about the two 2023 recalls of DR Power chipper shredders: models, faults, reports, units and remedy.

This page sets side by side what the official records say about two 2023 recalls of DR Power chipper shredders: the PRO XL501 notice of March 2, 2023 and the wider notice of September 21, 2023. It uses the CPSC records, the two Health Canada notices and the maker's recall notices page. The wider list is in the guide to chipper, log splitter and pole saw recalls. The notices linked below are the record.
The March 2, 2023 notice
The CPSC record covers the PRO XL501 chipper shredder, models CS35050BEN and CS35050BENR. The fault it names is that the fin scroll can fail, ejecting pieces of metal from the hopper during operation, a laceration hazard. The CPSC says the firm had six reports of the machines ejecting metal and no injuries reported. Health Canada gives the same count as of February 28, 2023, with no reports in Canada, and lists serial numbers from 3004880448 to 3011335001. The machine has an orange body and a black motor on a black metal frame with two wheels, and "DR and PROXL501" are printed on the motor. The CPSC record gives the units as "About 2,100 (In addition, about 27 were sold in Canada and about 3 were sold in Mexico)".
The remedy in both records is a repair. The firm contacts known buyers and sends a repair kit with installation instructions and a small sticker with the letters "NF" for the data tag. Buyers who do not want to make the repair themselves are directed to a servicing dealer for a free repair, with transport to and from the dealer.
The September 21, 2023 notice
The CPSC record lists 13 model numbers: CS35050BEN, CS35050BENR, CS35050BENSD, CS35150BEN, CS35150BENR, CS35150BENSD, CS35150DEN, CS45040DMN, CS45040DEN, CS45040DENR, CS45040DMNR, CS43030DMN and CS43030DMNR. Model CS35050BEN also appears in the March 2023 notice. The record names two faults: pieces of metal can come loose inside the housing and be ejected, and the hopper can become detached from the shredder. Both are laceration hazards. It gives the units as "About 5,900 (In addition, about 90 were sold in Canada)", and names Generac Power Systems Inc. of Waukesha, Wisconsin as the manufacturer.
The reports differ between the two agencies. The CPSC record says the firm had 79 reports of parts coming loose or metal ejecting, including two reports of injuries, and three reports of hoppers detaching, including one minor abrasion injury. The Health Canada notice says that as of September 20, 2023 the company had one report in Canada and 23 reports in the United States of parts coming loose, with no reports of injuries in either country. Both counts are shown here because both are published.
Where sold and remedy
The CPSC record says the machines were sold through authorized dealers nationwide and online from the maker's site. Models beginning with CS3 were sold from September 2019 through August 2023, and models beginning with CS4 from August 2022 through July 2023. Health Canada gives the end of the CS4 period as August 2023. The remedy in both agencies' notices is a full refund or a free repair, including shipping. The model number is on the side of the unit for models that begin with CS3. For models that begin with CS4, the model and serial numbers are on a white label on the base of the machine, to the left of the engine's manual start handle.
The maker's notices page
The maker's DR Power recall notices page lists both notices with release numbers 23-732 for the March 2023 notice and 23-291 for the September 2023 notice, each with a downloadable PDF. On October 8, 2026 the same page also listed other DR Power recalls, among them the battery chainsaw notice of June 5, 2025 that appears in the chainsaw list.
